SIX REASONS TO INVEST IN A WOOL BLANKET

SIX REASONS TO INVEST IN A WOOL BLANKET

Blankets are synonymous with warmth, comfort and security. We reach for them to keep warm, and when we’re feeling blue. Kids love to read under a blanket with a torch when the lights are supposed to be off, and will hide underneath one if they get scared.

Wool blankets and throws are also fabulous additions to most homes and can complement your interior design, enhancing the look of bedrooms and living areas. So blankets are clearly not just practical household items – they become part of the family. And if you buy a good quality tartan wool blanket it may even become a beloved family heirloom.

Treat yourself or someone you love to a beautiful, long-lasting wool blanket. Invest in a quality throw and enjoy the huge return. Here we list six compelling reasons why you should consider buying a top quality wool blanket.

1. PURE WOOL BLANKETS LAST FOR YEARS

The beauty of pure wool fabric is that if taken care of they will last decades. Our blog post Our guide to the wonders of wool highlights the many, almost magical, properties of wool fibres. They keep you warm when it’s cold but can keep you cool when it’s hot as the natural wool fibres allow the garment to ‘breathe’. Wool fabrics are also naturally showerproof, stain proof, and their anti-bacterial properties keep odours at bay.

For more advice on how to take care of your woollen purchases we’ve listed some top tips in our blog post How to take care of your woollen clothes and blankets.

2. WOOL BLANKETS CAN ADD TO YOUR INTERIOR DESIGN

Blankets or throws are very popular accessories, used to add colour and style to home interiors. Nowadays these words are used as synonyms although there was a subtle difference: blankets used for bedding while wool throws are generally smaller, lighter and more decorative.

Amongst Highland Store’s best-selling throws you will find our merino wool reversible multicoloured blankets that come in tile or dot patterns. These contemporary blankets are fun, colourful and super soft – guaranteed to brighten up any interior.

Other popular choices are our classic super soft herringbone blankets in fine lambswool and merino, and our chunky, soft and fluffy pure new wool blankets which come in a range of pastel and neutral shades.

And, of course, our merino wool tartan blankets look fabulous in both contemporary and traditional interiors. Made with a tighter spun yarn, these blankets are soft and comforting to touch.

3. WOOL BLANKETS WILL FOLLOW YOU ANYWHERE

As well as being useful around the home to keep warm and to add style, wool blankets can come in handy just about anywhere. We’ve even heard stories from customers of how they’ve found them so handy for wrapping up in to survive a chilly airport stopover.

6. A TARTAN BLANKET CAN BE A LINK WITH YOUR SCOTTISH HERITAGE

If you have Scottish heritage, a tartan wool blanket is a lovely way to express your pride in your ancestry. There are many well-known clan and family tartan patterns available to choose from such as Royal Stewart, Robertson, and MacDonlad.

If you’re not sure if you have a family or clan tartan you can visit the Tartan Register. You can search for a tartan by name or by the area you believe your family hails from. So you might find an appropriate district tartan that fits the bill.

Alternatively, if you can’t find a specific tartan associated with your name, you can simply pick one you like. There are also ‘neutral’ tartans that are not associated with any family or clan.

Tartans also come in different variations on a theme. From bold modern tartans to the lovely faded colours of ‘ancient’ or ‘muted’ tartans, you’re bound to find one that appeals to your tastes or matches your interior design.
