The Bonnie Prince Charlie Jacket is a true classic. Considered as the Scottish "black tie" attire it is surely the most formal amongst the highland looks we offer for hire.
The jacket and waist coat are beautifully crafted in durable 100% wool barathea. Available in all chest sizes and three lengths.
Despite the many buttons (three vertical buttons on both rail cuffs, three vertical buttons on both sides of the jacket front and eight buttons on the back) this jacket cannot be fastened and is always worn with a waistcoat and a bow tie making it appropriate for weddings and formal dinners.
Listed in tailoring catalogues in the twenties as a “coatee”, over the decades it became known as "Prince Charlie" or “Bonnie Prince Charlie” jacket after Charles Edward Stuart, who sat on Great Britain’s throne in 18th century as ”Charles III”.
He was raised in Italy and enjoyed a privileged childhood. During his lifetime, he was also known as "the Young Pretender" and "the Young Chevalier” although in popular memory, he is mostly referred to as "Bonnie Prince Charlie” supposedly due to his boyish looks and charm. Remembered for his efforts in the 1745 rising and crushing defeat at Culloden 1746, when the Stuart cause ended.
(Shirt and tie not included but can be hired separately)
